I teach all singing voice qualities and spoken voice apart from metal screaming/growling - because I haven’t learned enough about that yet (but I know the perfect teacher for you if that’s what you’re after!)
I have particular areas of expertise in Musical Theatre (legit and contemporary), and CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music, including Golden Age, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Folk).
For advanced classical voices I can recommend colleagues who will be able to serve you better.

Estill Voice Training® (EVT) is guided by the following principles:
Everyone has a beautiful voice
No aesthetic bias as long as vocal health is maintained
EVT isn’t a method, or a technique, it’s simply a model of understanding vocal function grounded in voice science, that enables you to understand how your voice works and how you can use it in the way you want to.
For more information about EVT and Jo Estill the person, you can visit Estill Voice.
EVT focuses mostly on the craft of singing and speaking - the structures involved in vocal production. Working with an Estill Master Trainer can enable you to learn all about the different structures that make up your voice, and gain control of them so that you can produce any voice quality you like, whether that’s singing a classical aria, belting out a showtune or riffing like a pop legend, speaking publicly with confidence and clarity - or do it all!

Although there are no official regulations to follow to keep each other safe from Covid and other airborne viruses, there are several measures that I have kept in place since the pandemic so that face-to-face lessons can be enjoyed as safely as possible.
If you are unwell, I ask you to either switch to an online lesson or to reschedule, which you can do up to 48 hours before the lesson start time. I will always reschedule or refund a missed lesson if I am unable to teach it due to illness
The studio has an air purifier with a HEPA H13 filter which removes 99.97% of airborne particles, pollen, allergens and dust
If you choose to attend face-to-face lessons, you do so at your own risk. If the whole situation makes you anxious, then online lessons are a brilliant alternative!

I teach adults of all ages. I don’t teach school-aged singers as I have very limited availability outside of school hours.
I work particularly well with actors and dancers who are seeking to improve their singing, and those looking for help to audition for drama school of further training. Audition prep and acting through song are some of my favourite things to work on!

There are many wonderful voice teachers, and I believe everybody should be able to find the perfect one for them. I may be a good fit for you if:
you’re looking for an Estill Master Trainer or want to find out about Estill Voice training
you are looking for somebody who teaches many genres of music, but has a specialism in Musical Theatre and CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music, including Pop, Rock, Folk, and Jazz)
you want to work with somebody who has up-to-date skills and experience
you want to work on your musicianship alongside your singing - help with sightreading, music theory and improvisation are available
you’re looking for somebody who will prioritise your vocal health and empower you to make good choices about your voice
you want to enjoy yourself!
Please email me if you’re interested in booking a lesson. Once I have more availability, I’ll arrange a phone call so we can have a talk through your goals and expectations before booking a lesson, as it gives us both a chance to see if we might be a good fit for each other. If not, no hard feelings - I can usually recommend another teacher who can provide what you need.

No, I am happy to give one-off lessons to prep for auditions and performances or just to have a vocal check-in.
However, there are benefits to regular lessons. Regular training is better for vocal fitness and stamina, for working on technique and ironing out voice patterns that may not be serving you, all of which take time - there are no shortcuts.
Your voice is a part of your body - an absolutely incredible instrument made up of a complex set of muscles, ligaments, cartilages, and bone, not to mention the role your brain, thought patterns and emotions play in the way it functions… So making changes to your voice takes time and a healthy dose of discipline, like any other kind of physical exercise. The more practice you put in between lessons, the ‘fitter’ your voice will become and the quicker you’ll achieve your goals.

Warm-ups and vocal exercises are usually accompanied on the piano (depending on the genre), and songs are either accompanied on the piano or by backing tracks. If you’re having your lessons online, then there will be a time lag so things are a little different and tracks are usually needed - see this guide for more information.
